Good public safety and its leadership are vital to a healthy and thriving community.Douglas County Residents for Professional Law Enforcement (DCProLaw) is a non-partisan, grassroots, citizen-based, issues committee, organized in 2009.Lead by Chairman Jeff Wasden, DCProLaw is an unbiased group of local citizens dedicated to helping voters proactively shape future public-safety policy and its leadership in Douglas County, Colorado. Our Mission You deserve to be served by the most professional public-safety leaders.Our sole mission is to help evaluate local public-safety needs, evaluate candidates running for the elected offices of sheriff, coroner, and district attorney, and to help educate voters and support their public-safety concerns. Our 2012 Objective For 2012, DCProLaw is dedicated to helping you get to know and evaluate the candidates running for District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District.Our role is unbiased toward any candidate and is simply intended to help voters learn about the candidates, their qualifications and goals, and to help voters make educated decisions for whom they wish to vote as the 18th Judicial District Attorney in the upcoming November 2012 general election.DCProLaw will not endorse any candidate in the election for district attorney. About the Office of District Attorney Colorado has 22 judicial districts.The 18thJudicial District includes Douglas, Arapahoe, Elbert, and Lincoln counties and is served by an elected district attorney, who is the chief law enforcement officer for the judicial district.The core role of our District Attorney is to prosecute criminals to the fullest extent possible, protect the rights and interests of crime victims, and to help prevent crime before it happens. To be elected district attorney, each candidate must have been licensed to practice law in Colorado for the last five (5) years, must be a U.S. citizen and a Colorado resident who has resided in the 18th Judicial District for at least the last 12 months, and be at least 18 years of age. Our district attorney must be elected by the voters every four years, and our district attorney is limited to serving no more that two consecutive four-year terms.In 2012, our current District Attorney, Carol Chambers, is due to leave office due to term limits and we have a great opportunity to elect a new leader to represent our needs as our next district attorney.
