If you have come to this site looking for the business side of my life, my company, Spirit Wind Productions, you will be redirected to the Spirit Wind Productions website by going here -
I've learned many things in life, the first of which is, no one just shows up at "Here I am today", without first having to live and experience all the yesterdays that got us to today. Everything changes, and whether we like it or not, change simply happens. Jobs, marriages, friendships, careers that changed, beliefs once set in stone, curiousities which were once new worlds to conquer become worlds conquered, which make way for new curiousities and new worlds to conquer. Unfortunately, some will decide to just give up on this thing and adventure called life. My company, Spirit Wind Productions is not about giving up! It is about chasing dreams, realizing dreams, and creating new dreams, the things that life is made up of.
So enjoy your stay here. Hope you'll find it interesting.
Life Changers
Someone has said, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. As a very hungry student, I have had the opportunity to constantly seek teachers, lessons of life and people willing to share their insight with me.
It was the end of the year 1967. I was a Marine Lieutenant stationed in PhuBai, Republic of Vietnam, and about to celebrate my 24th birthday, when an envelope arrived with my name on it. Always a big deal. That postmark from America meant someone out there was thinking of me.
I opened it to find a brochure from The Jack London Museum in Oakland. As I perused the brochure, I read intently a poem coined by Jack London and it was like an epiphany to me. I wanted to live the life that Jack London succinctly described in his poem. What happened to me after that time would always be a reflection of those brief words he had written. Although I've faltered on fulfilling the excitement he expressed on occasion, I continue to return to what I think is one of the most powerful messages I had ever received.
"I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather my spark burn out in a brilliant blaze, than it should be stifled by dryrot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of a man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them; I shall use my time." - Jack London
My Journey Down The Rabbit Hole
The Buddha taught self-reliance and the importance of the continued unfolding of a set of life stories, directing the individual to a personal quest to discover a philosophy of life which suits them personally, and then taught the person to nurture that internal understanding of ones self, as they endeavor to explore and live within the reality of the external world, with its continuous impermanence of change.
In turn, the person is drawn into a journey and exploration that will diversify their mind, and lead those willing, to go as far down the Rabbit Hole as they wish, devouring the life they have been given, and absorbing the understanding that the experiences they encounter, and that life will present to them.
When I was provided the opportunity to decide how far down the Rabbit Hole I wanted to go, I made a very quick and calculated decision, I would take the journey as far as it went and enjoy and learn from the experiences life presented.
I'm pleased to say, while I doubt I'll ever get to the end of the Rabbit Hole, I'm at least giving it my best shot!
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky said it best in this lovely quote, "I am an old Buddhist pilgrim wandering about the world to teach the only true religion, which is truth."
Why not? That Rabbit Hole just seems to become more interesting when there remains one more quest.
So thanks for being here and I hope you will join me on my journey Down The Rabbit Hole.
